JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Thanksgiving week is shaping up nicely, weather-wise. Spotty precipitation for today and tomorrow will give way to mainly dry and warm conditions for the rest of the week, if not month. So travel should not be a problem for most headed to spend the holiday with family and friends.
The Elks Lodge will be hosting their traditional free Thanksgiving Day meal from 10am-3pm on Turkey Day. Then, on Friday, November 24, the town will usher in the Christmas season with the annual Town Square Lighting Ceremony from 5-7pm, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
Officials will flip the switch at 5:30pm. Santa will arrive shortly after, with help from the Jackson Hole Fire Department. He will stay no later than 7pm.
The Russian Club of Jackson Hole and Dancers’ Workshop will put on a special free screening of “The Nutcracker” on Sunday, November 26, at 3pm in The Center Theater.
There are many different versions of “The Nutcracker.” This one in particular, performed by the Mariinsky Ballet, is a classic version from the very theater that premiered it in 1892 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The Teton County Library (Jackson and Alta branches) will be closed in observance of Thanksgiving on both Thursday and Friday of this week.
The library is open for cyber visits, however. If you’re traveling for the holiday, try downloading an ebook or music to make the trek over the river and through the woods more enjoyable. While doors are closed, the library website is open all day, every day.
Access your library account to renew materials, place holds, stream movies and download books and magazines with your library card number and PIN. You can even prep for prime shopping days, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, by accessing Consumer Reports for free with your library card number and PIN from the comfort of home.
All skating programs at the Kotler Ice Arena in Victor will run as scheduled this week with the exception of Thursday, Thanksgiving Day when the rink will be closed to the public.
