Teton Barbers will create special poll for Mayor’s trump takedown, GOP rallying petition

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – As the town of Jackson continues to take center stage in the Trump-versus-anything-his-name-is-connected-with debate, Mike Randall announced on Facebook Teton Barbers will conduct a poll for the express purpose of learning what the community thinks about Mayor Pete Muldoon’s decision to remove a picture of President Trump from Town Hall and replace it with a portrait of Shoshone Chief Washakie.

Randall says he will conduct the survey this week and announce the results on Friday. Teton Barbers has become a popular and regular polling place for local elections.

Members of the Teton County Republican Party have been vocal about their displeasure with the omission of Trump, a Republican. Party chair Paul Vogelheim said, “Hanging pictures of the President has been a tradition in the community since at least the mid-’80s. When it comes to showing respect for our nation and our state, this is a nonpartisan issue. Regardless of who holds the office of the U.S. President and Vice President, their photos should hang in a place of honor in Jackson and Teton County government buildings.”

The GOP launched an online petition in hopes of getting the President’s portrait back up. When complete, the list will be sent to members of the town council.

Meanwhile, the local dustup has made national news.

The Washington Times reported, “The newly elected mayor of Jackson, Wyoming, has removed the portraits of President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence from the Town Hall building’s entrance, breaking a decades-long tradition.”

The story also reported that it was councilman Jim Stanford who suggested Muldoon trade the Trump pic for Washakie. Stanford, who once ran a blog called JH Underground, made national headlines in 2007 when he organized a protest that advocated for the impeachment and imprisonment of then VP Dick Cheney, whose effigy was eventually toppled and beheaded at the event. Cheney makes his home in Jackson Hole.

Republican state Rep. Tyler Lindholm was quoted by the Times stating, “As soon as a Republican’s elected, Jackson takes the stance that they’re gonna jerk their pictures down. I guess that shows character, doesn’t it?”

Fox News also took notice of Jackson’s presidential diss, writing, “The folks who run the Town Hall in Jackson, Wyoming proudly displayed a portrait of President Obama during his terms in office. But they won’t be extending the same respect to President Trump.” The story ran under the headline: “Trump portrait removed by Jackson Hole mayor: ‘We do not live in a dictatorship.’”
