YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Yellowstone National Park officials have detected a new fire 3/4-mile east of Wyodaho Lake in Yellowstone's Bechler District. A medical aircraft detected the one-acre Wyodaho Fire on Wednesday. It is currently smoldering and creeping along grass and open timber. The fire is less than a mile from the Bechler River Trail, about 600 feet above it. There are no trail or campsite closures, but a one-mile diameter area closure has been implemented to provide a margin of safety around the fire area. Fire personnel will monitor the fire and expand or contract the closure as needed. The Yellowstone area is a fire-adapted ecosystem. Fire plays an important role in maintaining the health of this area’s wildlife habitat and vegetation.
