JACKSON, Wyo. — With the advent of COVID, most of us have had our lives changed for the worse. Mask wearing isn’t exactly enjoyable, and mere use of PPEs has put us at each other’s throats at times, becoming political fodder and an incendiary device for social media screeds. But it seems almost every abominable aspect of the pandemic—the loss of sports, the quarantining, the endless Zooming—has highlighted the need for speed. Internet speed. The good news is, an upside to the whole COVID thing is faster internet speeds for Wyoming. In fact, according to whistleOut, no state has shown greater improvement in this area than Wyoming. This is welcome news as the COVID-19 pandemic shuts down workplaces and schools across the country, causing many to shift their work and study from home. whistleOut says Wyoming internet users have benefited the most from higher broadband speeds during the months of the pandemic, with average download speeds increasing by a whopping 52%. Some of the improvements can be credited to the government. Remember the statewide push by the Wyoming Broadband Council to improve internet connectivity and speeds to underserved rural populations? It appears to be working.
