Speech and Debate getting set to host tourney, volunteer judges needed

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The JHHS Speech and Debate team will host its own invitational tournament on Friday and Saturday, January 26 and 27, 2018.

Organizers are in need of volunteer judges to fill 120 sessions of judging for approximately an hour and a half each. Judging guidelines will be provided and several practice judging sessions will be offered. Judging experience is not required.

Events include Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, Cross Examination, and Extemporaneous Debate, Student Congress, Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, Humor, Drama, Poetry, Program Oral Interpretation, Impromptu,  Informative Speaking, and Duet.

Judging these talented high school competitors is an entertaining and rewarding experience. Refreshments and free babysitting will be provided.

Eleven schools from around the state will be in attendance at the meet that will include nearly 320 student entries.

JHHS Speech & Debate team member and sophomore Jake Todd reflected, “The organization of a home tournament is a massive undertaking for coaches, team members, and community members, but it is also very rewarding. The students take a lot of pride in hosting a tournament that has a reputation for being one of the best in the state.”

Volunteers are needed anytime from 2:30pm Friday afternoon until 9:30pm Friday evening; or from 8:00am Saturday until 3:30pm Saturday. Please email coach Londe Gagnon or call her at 307-699-0537. Currently the team is most in need of filling the 7pm and 8:30pm judging times on Friday, and the 8am round on Saturday.
