YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. — Here’s something you don’t see every day:
Mike Daus, “Chief Popperating Officer” of local business Jackson Hole POP, captured a remarkable video of a young grizzly attacking a young bison in Yellowstone National Park. Then, Jackson Hole EcoTour Adventures did the public service of narrating the video to explain what’s happening — and why it’s so rare.
“Killing a bison is not an easy task for any animal, particularly not a grizzly,” EcoTour biologist Tenley Thompson explains.
Spoiler alert and content warning: the bear wins. The grizzly eventually exhausts the bison to the point that it succumbs to its wounds. But the bison puts up a good fight, and even leads the bear into the river to try to shake it off.
