Search and Rescue assists crashed mountain biker on Ferrin’s trail

JACKSON, Wyo. — An injured biker was rescued from atop Ferrin’s trail Tuesday after taking a bad spill.

Search and Rescue was paged out yesterday around 6 p.m. when the team received a report of a mountain biker who said he hit his head pretty hard and was nearly certain he broke his collarbone after hitting a rock and crashing on Ferrin’s trail. A preexisting medical condition also heightened the urgency of a rescue operation.

A TCSAR team immediately responded with a side-by-side UTV up the Snow King access road. Other ground teams approached via the Hagen and Ferrin’s trails on bikes and foot.

The UTV team arrived at the top of Snow King approximately 20 minutes after the page. Just before 7 p.m., the patient was packaged and loaded into the back of the UTV, then transported down Snow King to his waiting family at the base of the mountain. The team was back at the hangar by 7:35 p.m.

The incident marked the fifth mountain bike rescue for TCSAR since June 1.
