TETON VILLAGE, Wyo. — Has a little snow ever stopped a Jackson athlete, even from a sport typically executed on dirt?
Of course not. This weekend was no different.
Snow at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort may have thwarted race organizers’ goal to send mountain bike racers down the mountain from the top of Rendezvous Mountain for the first time ever, but it didn’t stop the 2019 Rendezvous Enduro Racers from trying.
More than eight inches of snow had fallen on the top of Rendezvous Mountain by Saturday morning. Racers had practiced the full course, snow and all, the day before, but race officials decided to scrap the first stage of the race for safety reasons and add a lower stage to the end of the course.
Still, racers took their bikes up the tram and made their way down to the new official start at Stage 2. From there, it was full-on. Much of the trail was either covered in snow or soaking wet. But racers were undeterred.
Brian Selmer had the fastest time down the mountain at 37:32. He won the Male Pro division, followed closely by Scott Mooney and Michael Grimland. Alicia Leggett won the Pro Female division.
Jason Ganey won Masters Male, Nate Sheehan won Expert Male, and David Harris took home the Sport Male gold.
Alyssa Wechsler won Expert Female and Colleen Valenstein won Sport Female.
