Parking discussion at this week’s Business Over Breakfast

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – This Thursday’s Business Over Breakfast session will be all about parking. The Chamber of Commerce hosts the regular morning session this Thursday, December 7 from 7:30-9:00am at the Wort Hotel.

Mayor Pete Muldoon and town administrator Bob McLaurin will be on hand to field questions and discuss concerns over a potential managed parking program for Jackson.

The Chamber also hosted two public forums this past November to get a reading on what community members felt about a possible paid parking system in Jackson. Business owners are especially encouraged to attend this BoB.

Buckrail has obtained an advanced copy of a report compiled by a START Funding Working Group. The group’s report was prepared on November 29 and will be officially presented to town and county officials at today’s JIM beginning at 3pm.

The report identified a few potential funding sources for START. One of those identified was Demand-Managed Parking, which the committee felt could generate up to $1 million a year and help mitigate congestion on city streets.

“Parking influences the way cities look, and how people travel around them, more powerfully than almost anything else,” the group reported after unanimously deciding some type of managed parking system would benefit the community. “Parking is a major cost to a community, and parking conflicts are among the most common problems facing designers, operators, planners and other officials.”

The working group determined “demand-managed parking will create increased demand and ridership for public transit, reducing cars on the road and traffic congestion; thus a portion of parking revenues will be used for START funding.” The findings will be presented this afternoon to the joint board of electeds.

Business Over Breakfast offers time for networking and announcements. Breakfast costs $16 for Chamber members and $25 for the general public. RSVP by 2pm on Wednesday, December 6 to events@jacksonholechamber.com or 307.733.3316.
