JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The oozing charisma of New York City funk/rock/soul group The Nth Power created quite the local buzz following past performances in our zip code. Since the project’s local debut at Contour Festival in 2015, which included a tribute set to Steely Dan, The Nth Power has reveled in the textures of being a five-piece unit. This year, drummer Nikki Glaspie (Dumpstaphunk, Beyonce), ultra melodic bassist/vocalist Nate Edgar (John Brown’s Body), and guitarist/vocalist Nick Cassarino (Jennifer Hartswick Band, Big Daddy Kane) have decided to transition into a power trio. The band will play Wednesday at the Mangy Moose.
With the dramatic lineup change also brings intense political energy with their new video and single, “Truth,” which contains blatant discontent for the current administration.
“In a system that profits off of ignorance and thrives on complacency, ‘Truth’ is a call to action—a reminder to unify and educate ourselves because preserving and strengthening humanity is our greatest responsibility,” it states on the band’s YouTube page.
Originally formed in 2012 during an impromptu late night jam at Jazz Fest in New Orleans, The Nth Power aims to change lives through a message of musical love and understanding. Redefining what is becoming the band’s latest sound, the trio draws from early Daft punk, Chic, and Earth, Wind & Fire while continuing the heavy dance grooves spanning R&B, gospel, disco and World music that they are known for. The forthcoming full-length album, Truth – Will You Fight for What’s Right?, is due this spring.
The Nth Power will perform at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 28 at the Mangy Moose in Teton Village. Tickets are $10 ($5 for season pass holders), available in the Market & Cellars and at the door.
