Mary Erickson steps down as ED of Coombs Outdoors

JACKSON, Wyo. — Coombs Outdoors today announced that Mary Erickson will step down as executive director by the end of this year.

Erickson served as the organization’s executive director since July 2017. She will return to her work as a priest at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jackson.

“Leading Coombs Outdoors over the past three years has been a wonderful challenge and an honor,” Erickson said. “I came on board to stabilize the organization by increasing the budget, diversifying our funding sources, putting key infrastructure in place, and professionalizing our programming, so Coombs could continue serving the children and youth in our community for years to come. The organization is in a great place, so it is time for me to step down and for us to welcome the next leader of the organization.”

Under Erickson’s leadership, Coombs Outdoors underwent a rebranding. The nonprofit was originally known as the Doug Coombs Foundation when it was launched by Doug’s wife Emily in 2012.

Since those early years, the program to connect underprivileged kids with winter activities like skiing has grown from 28 participants that first year to more than 250 today.

The board of directors has begun a search for its next leader.

“Coombs Outdoors is in an ideal position to be able to attract a strong, professional leader who shares a passion for our mission,” said Bill Maloney, board co-chair. “We are grateful to Mary for her hard work and leadership getting Coombs where it is today. We are excited about the future and look forward to welcoming our next executive director.”
