JACKSON, Wyo. – Snake River Brewing has commissioned Laramie artist Dan Toro for the Brewpub’s new permanent mural. Mr. Toro emerged from an original submission group of 77 artists, which was then narrowed down to four and selected by a stakeholder committee for the large-scale, site-specific mural. Work on the mural will begin in May with an unveiling date in early June depending on the weather.
Dan Toro received his B.A. in Art & Science from the University of Wyoming and continues to work from Laramie. His murals can be viewed in public spaces in Wyoming and around the country. Toro’s mural will depict a Snake River Cutthroat Trout, a signature species in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, painted onto a vibrant, multi-layered background. It will span the entirety of the east-facing exterior wall on the Snake River Brewing’s building in downtown Jackson, Wyoming.
Jackson Hole Public Art facilitated the call for artists and selection process. The Brewpub mural will be the cornerstone artwork of an event called Wild Walls that also includes temporary wheat-pasted murals throughout downtown Jackson.
This year, Wild Walls murals will be paired with Augmented Reality features that promote a greater understanding and awareness about local water quality issues. Protect Our Water JH is sponsoring the Augmented Reality content to provide community-wide education and proactive solutions on how individuals can conserve local water quality. A sneak peek of the augmented reality stories will soon be unveiled on the Center Street construction project mural by the artist Cal Brackin.
