Let’s do dat hockey: Puck drops tonight on 2018-19 season

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The Jackson Hole Moose begin their 2018-19 season tonight with a double-dip weekend against the Bozeman Stingers. The Senior A Club hockey team has announced an impressive schedule of 30 games, 24 at home before the playoffs on March 8, 2019.

Roster round-up new and old

The Moose will be sporting a few new wrinkles with the addition of Colby College standout Dan Duponte on defense, joined on the blue line by the hulking Davis Sebald.

The two additions will bolster an already impressive roster of rearguards led by the puck-rushing Brad Improta, along with steady two-way defensemen Nate Goss-Woliner and Chase Wharton.

Last year’s injuries on the blue line certainly hurt this team’s chances all season but there should be no shortage of capable bodies on defense to begin the year.

Up front, the Moose return all their scoring talent from last year. Team leader in points, AJ Sanders (20G, 45A) is back with Tom Hartnett (25G, 26A), Kyle Krauss (20G, 17A), Alex Dewitz (24G, 11A), Kevin Sunde (9G, 19A), and Drew Akins (7G, 19A).

Team captain and fan favorite Brian Upesleja will give it another go. Local boys Charlie Hagen, Eric Steinman, and Miller Resor will also lace ‘em up this season. And don’t call it a comeback, but Sean Hannifan will return from a one-year retirement to join the team wearing his familiar #19.

Star goaltender Nick Krauss will also return to anchor the team between the pipes.

Coach Bob “Howie” Carruth will once again take the helm.

More on the Moose

The Moose are part of Black Diamond Hockey League (BDHL). The champion of the league is decided by a playoffs (held this year in Jackson). The winner receives the Joe Casey Cup as a trophy to keep for the year. Last year’s champs were the Sun Valley Suns.

The Bozeman Stingers have proved to be a tough matchup for the Moose. The record does not indicate how feisty this team can be to play. The Moose handled Bozeman in all four contests last season but most games were close and the Stingers never quit in a game.

All games feature live music. Doors open at 7pm, puck drops at 7:30pm both Friday and Saturday nights. DJ Cut La Whut will bring the bangers up in the mezzanine.
