Lander community rallies to put on 4th of July parade despite cancellation

WYOMING — Lander residents are not going down without a fight this Fourth of July.

Like Jackson, Lander canceled its Independence Day parade. But Wyoming Public Media is reporting a community groundswell in the county seat where COVID has hit the hardest in Wyoming is planning a citizen’s parade, anyway.

Dubbed the “Lander Pirate Parade,” organizers began with loosely banding together on Facebook to inform residents that a parade down Main Street was being planned. Next thing you know, state senator Cale Case gets involved and helps by getting a permit from WYDOT to close the road temporarily.

Now, some 1,300 Facebook followers have joined the effort and the parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday beginning at the Lander Valley High School.

County 10 will livestream the event.
