Immigration law enforcement policy better defined

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – In an attempt to be open and clear about immigration policy in Jackson and how it pertains to law enforcement, the Jackson Police Department has updated its FAQ for April. The department has also scheduled an information session this Friday at the Teton County Library.

Law enforcement will share with the public all they know about immigration issues and the latest from Immigration Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE). Representatives from the Jackson Police Department and Teton County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand as well as One22 providing Spanish translation.

The community gatherings are part of a collaborative effort to share pertinent information. Supporters include Mayor Pete Muldoon, Trefonas Law, PC, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Jackson Hole United, Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce, Al Ritmo Spanish Radio.

Many questions can be answered by JPD’s informative FAQ on its website.

Highlights of the FAQ include:

QUESTION: If ICE contacted local law enforcement and indicated they would be coming to Jackson to do a “general round-up” or a “door-to-door sweep” would local law enforcement notify the public?

ANSWER: Yes, though ICE has communicated that they have no intentions of doing an operation of this nature.

The first of three scheduled sessions takes place this Friday, April 28, from 5-6pm at Teton County Library, Ordway Auditorium.

Others are scheduled for the same time, same place on May 11 and May 26.
