WYOMING – An Illinois man was fatally injured after rear-ending tractor-trailer near Lusk, Wyoming on August 16.

The crash occurred at milepost 195 on US 18 near Lusk. Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched at 10:32pm to the area for a two-vehicle collision.

A 2014 Toyota Yaris was traveling northbound on US-85. A 2010 Freightliner pulling a set of double trailers was turning south onto US-85 from US-18 when the Toyota collided with the rear trailer of the combination unit.

All of the occupants of the Yaris were injured and transported to various hospitals. The rear passenger of the Yaris, who was unrestrained, sustained serious injuries and died at Weston County Health Services hospital.

Speed on the behalf of the driver of the Toyota and failure to yield on the behalf of the driver of the Freightliner are being investigated as possible contributing factors to the crash.

The deceased has been identified as Juzer Chinwalla, 57, from Burr Ridge, Illinois where he was owner and operator of a periodontist clinic.

This is the 66nd fatality on Wyoming’s highways in 2018 compared to 95 in 2017, 74 in 2016, and 94 in 2015 to date.
