‘Get on the Line’ with indie goddess Jenny Lewis at Pink Garter

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Whether prancing stage in a sparkling sequin catsuit, launching her own collaborative weed strain and her own paired wine, or just being a badass indie rock goddess, Jenny Lewis is a brilliantly vulnerable songwriter that has become an L.A. idol. Her ever-evolving solo career has taken the front seat, though her time as frontwoman of Rilo Kiley and supergroup The Postal Service were projects that initially projected her beyond an 80’s child actress (she appeared in films Troop Beverly Hills and The Wizard, among others). It comes as a surprise that tickets still remain for her upcoming show Friday at the Pink Garter Theatre.

For newbies to the Jenny Lewis parade, look no further than her sophomore release, 2008’s Acid Tongue for a quick primer. And that’s no shrug to her 2019 release and fourth solo album, On the Line, a continuation of on the money, sharp-witted confidence with copious amounts of tell-it-like-it-is lyricism and orchestrated textures. Even Ringo Starr plays drums on it and for the most part, critics love it.

This fan caught her at Red Rocks Amphitheatre last summer supporting Beck (who also co-produced her new album), and though her set was a short thirty-five minutes, it was a first-time glimpse into how well she curates a performance. It’s adorably glitzy, with Lewis’ voice as the centerpiece and a band that is seemingly wrapped around her.

Jenny Lewis with guest Allie Crow Buckley, 9 p.m. Friday at the Pink Garter Theatre. $30. PinkGarterTheatre.com.
