Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Varsarhelyi can add a handful of Emmy Awards to their trophy case after last weekend — seven, to be exact.
The filmmaking power couple’s documentary “Free Solo” won in all seven of the categories for which it was nominated in the Creative Emmy Awards.
Personally, Varsarhelyi and Chin (who split their time between Wilson, WY and New York City) took home three awards between them both. Both won “Outstanding Achievement Directing (documentary)” and “Outstanding Creative Achievement.” Chin also won “Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography (non-fiction)” along with his cohorts Clair Popkin and Mikey Schaefer.
Bob Eisenhardt won “Outstanding Achievement in Editing (non-fiction). The film also won “Oustanding Achievement in Sound Editing (non-fiction),” Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing (non-fiction,” and “Outstanding Achievement in Music Composition (documentary).”
“It was a good night for team @freesolofilm,” Chin wrote on social media. “A bit surreal. Just wanted to express my gratitude to our friends, family and everyone that has supported the film and taken the time to see it. The Emmy’s marked the end of what has been a run of a lifetime.”
Free Solo also won an Academy Award for “Best Documentary Feature” in February.
