Four wolves removed from Dell Creek Pack

JACKSON, Wyo. — A beleaguered wolf pack is again under fire as wildlife officials confirmed they removed at least four after livestock depredation near Bondurant.

Wyoming Game and Fish said the action was taken after repeated attacks on livestock in the area of Dell Creek Feedgrounds northeast of Bondurant.

The Dell Creek Pack has been a problem for ranchers going back years. An incident of high surplus killing of elk in 2016 first got the attention of wildlife managers. Since then, the Dell Creek Pack has been in almost constant trouble with cattle depredation.

As recently as February of this year, authorities carried out aerial research on the Dell Creek Pack and other wolves. Some 35 new collars were placed on wolves last winter during the operation.

Wildlife Services state director Mike Foster confirmed four wolves were taken from the pack recently on two separate helicopter runs. WGFD’s Dan Thompson said at least seven beef calves were killed or maimed by wolves so far this year.
