JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Last year’s flu shot fell well short but health experts say it is still the best bet going.
Health Department officials are encouraging people in the community to get vaccinated for flu and are providing walk in flu clinics to the public.
People looking for a flu shot may visit the Health Department located at 460 Pearl Ave. anytime between 8:00am and 5:00pm Tuesdays and Thursdays through November 15.
All vaccines this year are mercury and preservative free. The shot this year will be a quadrivalent vaccine, meaning that it provides protection against four strains of the flu virus. There is also a high-dose vaccine available for adults 65+.
Teton County Health Department accepts most insurances for payment, cash, checks or credit cards. Please check with your health insurance provider to see if a flu shot is covered by your plan. A same day cash discount is available for $30 for the quadrivalent vaccine. If the Health Department charges your insurance company for your flu shot and your insurance plan does not cover flu shots you will be responsible for the paying the entire bill, which would include $25 for the flu shot and $20 for an administrative fee.
Questions about the clinics or vaccines may be directed to the Teton County Health Department at 307.733.6401
In addition to the Teton County Health Department other area pharmacies and healthcare providers will have flu vaccine available. Please contact your preferred provider for more information on their vaccine availability.
To make receiving your flu shot as easy as possible, the Teton County Health Department will be hosting an Adult 65+ Focused Flu Clinic at the Senior Center on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 10am-1pm. High dose flu shots will be available for individuals who are 65 years old and over, while the quadrivalent flu shot (which provides protection against four strains of the influenza virus) will be available for individuals who are under 65 years of age or individuals who choose not to receive the high dose flu shot.
The Teton County Health Department can bill Medicare and other insurances for the cost of either type of flu shot. Please bring your Medicare card, insurance card, and/or your supplemental insurance card with you to ensure accurate billing occurs.
Pneumonia vaccines will also be available at the Flu Clinic at the Senior Center. Check with your primary care provider to see which pneumonia vaccine you may be due to receive. Bring your vaccine record and your insurance information with you if you wish to receive a pneumonia vaccine (Medicare will cover both pneumonia vaccines).
