The Drift: Winter marathon will test your mettle

SUBLETTE COUNTY, WYO – Olympics got you pumped to participate yourself? This is the winter games you need to be a part of.

Race map.

The first annual winter marathon called The Drift will take place next weekend. It’s a winter race in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming, the largest mountain range in the state. Racers may ski, bike, or run on the snow-covered groomed trail. For 2018, the race will be a 28-mile marathon. This recreation event is authorized under a Special Use Permit with the Bridger Teton National Forest.

Next year, race organizers are hoping to make the 2019 event a 100-mile ultra marathon—the highest elevation winter ultra marathon in the United States.

This year’s race will be held on March 3. Registration is limited to just 50 participants with a deadline of March 1.

Race organizers Josh and Laura—the Winter King and Queen of Pinedale this year.

The race is organized by the same people that bring you the Surly Pika Adventure Race—Laura Hattan, Josh Hattan, Darren Hull, and Keri Hull.

Participants should plan on arriving in Pinedale by Friday evening to be ready for the race Saturday morning. The pre-race meeting will be held at the Sublette County Library‘s Lovatt Room from 6:30-8:00pm, and is mandatory for all racers. The after-party will be Saturday night at local brewery, Wind River Brewing Company and we know you won’t want to miss that, so make a weekend out of it!

Thinking about it? The website is very informative. With a FAQ section, recommendations on gear needed, and all the deets on the racecourse.
