SUBLETTE COUNTY, WYO – The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office and EMS responded to a report of an unresponsive female on Thursday, September 7, at approximately 10:50am.

Upon arrival at 103 State Highway 354 (known locally as the Horse Creek Road) deputies and emergency medical personnel found a woman later identified as Nancy Wiebe, 84, of Daniel, Wyoming. Wiebe was unresponsive and cold to the touch. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. No foul play is suspected.

The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office extends their deepest condolences to Mrs. Wiebe’s family.

Brief bio

Wiebe was born in Florida on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 1932. Her family moved to upstate New York in 1941. It was there Wiebe took up English riding and showing horses in competition. In fact, Wiebe ride a horse named Peg’s Pride to a national championship in 1951.

As a teacher and single mom, Wiebe began visiting Wyoming with her three children in 1971. The family made the move permanent in 1978.

Wiebe taught at Big Piney Elementary for many years and was a familiar face in the Daniel area.
