Crash on I-80 near Laramie kills one

WYOMING – A California man died as a result of a crash on Interstate 80 on Tuesday.

Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash occurring at milepost 333 on Interstate 80 east of Laramie, Wyoming at around 1:37pm on April 23.

A 2014 Subaru was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 when the driver failed to negotiate a slight curve to the left. The Subaru drifted off the right side of the roadway before the driver over-corrected back to the left. The vehicle exited the left side of the road and struck an earth embankment, before coming to a stop against some large rocks.

The driver of the Subaru has been identified as 73-year-old Monterey, California resident Charles C. Vanmeter. Vanmeter was wearing his seatbelt but succumbed to injuries at the scene of the crash.

Driver inattention or a possible medical emergency is being investigated as a contributing factor.

This is the 46th fatality on Wyoming’s roadways in 2019 compared to 23 in 2018, 31 in 2017, and 14 in 2016 to date.
