JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Jackson Hole Babe Force (JHBF), an organization committed to providing support and camaraderie for women in the mountains, announced they have launched their 2017-2018 scholarship program.

The scholarship program launched in 2015 to provide women with financial assistance and encouragement to participate in education and training that will help them become smarter, stronger, and more confident in the mountains. In its first year, the scholarship program provided funding to two local women to attend Avalanche Level 1 courses.

Last year, the second round of scholarships grew significantly, and the JHBF awarded funding to 10 women in total: six local women to attend Level One Avalanche courses, two local women to attend Level Two Avalanche courses, and two Wyoming-based women to attend the women’s Elevate ski camp at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

This year, Babe Force has stepped its game up yet again, awarding 17 individual scholarships in four different categories.

“We have received between 75-100 applications each year to our scholarship program, and each year it has been so hard to decide who the recipients should be,” said Crystal Wright, president and co-founder of the Jackson Hole Babe Force. “The number of women who want to break out of their comfort zone, learn, and become more self-sufficient in the mountains is growing and lack of financial resources to do so can be a real barrier. We are so excited to be able to help more and more women each year by providing them with the financial assistance they need to reach their goals in the mountains.”

The 2017-2018 Scholarship Categories are as follow:

Progression Session: 12 Women will be awarded scholarships to attend a women’s only Level 1 Avalanche course on February 1–4, 2018 with the American Avalanche Institute. Applicants are encouraged to apply for reimbursement for up to $1,000.00 for entry fees and travel costs, and this scholarship is open to all types of competitions in both winter and summer sports.

Scholarship program funds are raised through donations accepted during the organization’s year-round programming, with the majority of funds raised at the annual spring fundraiser. For the past two years, JHBF has held a Kentucky Derby Spring Fling that raises money through ticket sales, raffle, and a silent auction, 100% of which goes to the Scholarship Fund.

For more information about scholarships and to apply.
