The night Tom Petty played Jackson Hole
JACKSON HOLE, WYO – If you were here in the valley in 2003, maybe you remember the only time Tom Petty played in the valley. It was late August. Base of Snow King. It rained some.
And Petty was pure magic.
Coming off a two-day break after playing New Orleans, Tom Petty and his Heartbreakers stopped in Jackson Hole on August 29, a month after Bob Dylan had stopped by for a sold out show.
From the opening bars of “American Girl,” Petty had the crowd eating out of his hand. Buckrail reprints his playlist from that night as a tribute to a legendary songwriter/rocker lost too soon. The final strains of his last song in the valley still echoing: “Baby, Please Don’t Go.”
