Credit card caper in Pinedale may include hacked info
PINEDALE, WYO – As more calls come in to the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office of fraudulent transactions on credit and debit cards, the investigation is now leading toward something other than actual “skimming” locations.
According to SCSO, it may not be physical skimming devices that are stealing credit card information. There could be a hack.
Some complainants are reporting that they actually used their card inside certain business establishments. Some stated that they had not used their cards in weeks or months.
Initial investigation focused around gas stations in the Pinedale area, but it has since been uncovered that a number of other local businesses and restaurants have also been affected. As this investigation is still ongoing names of businesses cannot be released at this time.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages citizens to continue to be vigilant in monitoring their accounts for potential fraudulent charges and report them immediately.
